Sync and offline issues
Why a job is missing on another device, what to do about load errors, and what uploads when.
MC Inventory is local-first: you capture on-device, and it uploads to the cloud when there's a connection. Most "it's not showing up" problems come down to when the app uploads work and when it restores jobs.
Jobs aren't appearing on another device
A job created on one device shows on another only after the first device has uploaded it and the other device opens the app signed in. Even then, only an admin gets all of the company's jobs. Anyone else gets only the jobs they created, so a crew member won't see a job a teammate made.
What to do:
- Get the first device online. It uploads its changes in the background whenever it has a connection.
- Open the app signed in on the other device. That's when the app restores jobs that are on the server but not on that phone.
- Confirm both people are signed in to the same company. Data is company-scoped, you only see your own company's jobs. See Team and roles.
"Couldn't load jobs" / "Couldn't load the library"
If the Jobs list can't load, it shows "Couldn't load jobs" with a Try again button. The Library tab shows "Couldn't load the library" with the same Try again.
What to do:
- Tap Try again.
- If it still fails, check your connection and retry.
- If it persists, close and reopen the app.
Data looks stale or out of date
If a teammate's recent change isn't showing, or your own edit from another device hasn't arrived, that's expected. A job that's already on your phone is never refreshed from the server, so an edit made on another phone to a job you already have doesn't come down to yours.
What to do: Reopening the job or the app won't bring the edit down. It stays on the phone that made it, and in the cloud once that phone uploads it.
What syncs, and when
- What syncs: jobs, items, rooms, pre-existing-damage notes, signatures, and photos you attach, all scoped to your company.
- When: whenever the device has a connection. There's no manual "sync now", it runs on its own and depends on connectivity, so expect a short delay after capturing something offline.
- Which way: your device uploads its changes. It downloads jobs it doesn't have yet (all of the company's jobs for an admin, your own jobs for anyone else), when you open the app signed in.
- What stays local: dictation audio and any photos you don't attach to an item never leave the device. See Privacy and your data.
Signing out with unsent work
Signing out keeps everything on the phone. Work that hasn't uploaded yet uploads at the next sign-in. Only deleting your account erases this device's data. See Manage your account.
Important: That's how version 2.4 and later work. On version 2.3 and earlier, signing out erases this phone's copy of your data, and work saved on the phone may not have reached the cloud. Don't sign out or delete the app until you've updated. Your version is under Settings › About.
